If one thing’s for certain, it’s that Jonathan loves keeping his home organized and clean! In fact, spring cleaning is basically a year-round holiday at the Park House. Every space is important to keep streamlined, but one area he always likes to be neat and tidy is the laundry room. It can be hard, especially with kids, but with a few smart tips and tricks from the Property Brothers host himself, you can make easy work of this seemingly endless chore.

“I love the smell of a sparkly clean, fresh space,” Jonathan says. But with pets, kids, and daily messes, keeping the laundry room clean can feel like running a circus! But keep reading and you might find that his advice will help with the wash, fluff, and fold process. Who knows, laundry may become your new favorite task on the to-do list.

1. Get Everything Off the Floor

“One of the most important things to set yourself up for success is to get everything up off the floor,” Jonathan says. This will give you more room to move around, as laundry rooms are often on the smaller side. Hanging your ironing board and brooms, using baskets to organize your darks, whites, and colors, and generally keeping the area clutter-free will help your room look and stay orderly. (Plus, it’ll keep your head clear while you’re doing the actual chore. An organized space is an organized mind.)

2. Keep Laundry Supplies Organized

Jonathan says one thing that’s helped him avoid tons of headaches is to keep his supplies organized. Put all of your essentials into baskets with labels so you can keep track of where everything is. Consider bundling them together by type—for example, put your detergent, bleach, and fabric softeners in one basket, and your stain removers in another. Then, when coffee spills strike, you’ll know exactly where to reach. It will also help you keep an eye on when you’re running low on something.

3. Take Advantage of Products That Save Time and Money

The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and the LG Studio Styler Steam Closet are two of Jonathan’s favorite items inside his laundry room. The Magic Eraser is the all-purpose cleaning product that Jonathan says has saved him countless timely jobs. “I’ve had walls that I thought I was going to have to repaint,” he says, but he was able to bring them right back to their sparkling state by using these pads. “Kids can scuff up walls, bump them, and they get really grungy. But this brings it right back,” he says. Plus, you can use them to get scuffs and scratches off shoes!

With the Studio Styler, Jonathan says that if you have it in the budget, it’s absolutely worth it. It’s basically an at-home dry cleaner and sanitizer—but without all those harsh chemicals. We’re huge fans of those items that are not only eco-friendly, but that also save you a ton of time and money in the long run. Jonathan uses it for everything from kids’ stuffies to sports equipment. “It’s pretty sweet,” he says. “But cleaning in general just gets me excited.”

Same here, Jonathan!
